We always keep in mind when working with clients on their search engine optimization (aka SEO, or getting found on Google), to think of SEO as simple as – make it easy for Google to find the information you want to share with your potential clients or customers.
Start with your ideal customer and reverse-engineer the way to get in front of them. No gimmicks, just educated considerations. You got this!! (and if not, we’re always here to help).
Common sense is invaluable when it comes to SEO, and nobody has more common sense than an entrepreneur. **toots own horn**
For example, Google loves video, especially from YouTube (Google owns YouTube). But if your ideal customer is not on YouTube, OR you shudder at the idea of creating video content, then move on.
Give “should” the middle finger because “Done is better than perfect” is our motto when it comes to SEO.
The start of every yellow brick road to SEO success (and a fabulous pair of red shoes) starts with just two things:
- Keywords
- Longtail keyword phrases
Keywords are words that are uniquely associated with your business that are of interest to people. Example – if you are a soap maker, some keywords would be soap, local, artisan, clean, fresh, oil, moisturizing, natural.

Keyword phrases are great too! Google has some very sophisticated AI technology, so search engines will increase the relevancy of phrases pertaining to your customer’s search.
For example:
“organic goat milk soap”
“moisturizing artesian lavender soap”
So make sure you naturally include keywords and associated key phrases as often as possible, especially in your headlines and subheadings. Sprinkle that sh#t everywhere!
A note on keyword “stuffing”- Don’t!
In addition to Google’s AI crawler penalties, customers HATE it, which will do more damage in the long run.
SEO is a long game; it takes at least three months (honestly more like six to nine months) to be effective, so stick with best practice. You won’t regret it.
